Painted Sawdust

Amory is talking about socialism here, and the problem with socialism is, in the grand scheme of things, there aren’t too many “best men.” The system has been tried and found wanting. It tends to bring out our lower natures, not our higher ones because its foundation is sand. It removes the very concept and meaning of honor. If there is no God and a standard of righteousness, what is honor anyway? Another carrot that must be dangled but that the horse knows is just painted saw dust.
